Dr. Welmerink is a Board Certified Orthodontist. He graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1973. He practiced general dentistry for five years with the United States Public Health Service, Indian Health Division. At that time, he returned to the University of Michigan to continue his education with specialty training in orthodontics. After completing his two-year residency training in 1980, he returned to the Public Health Service, serving two years as Orthodontic Consultant for the seven Indian Health Clinics in the Arizona/Nevada area. In September 1982, he opened his private practice in Sparks. In July of 2007, he opened a satellite office in Northwest Reno, which is currently open one day per week.
He has served as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Northern Nevada Dental Society and is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists.
The Welmerink family includes his wife, Cris, and their four children: Adam, who is in his orthodontic residency at the University of Michigan, and his wife Diana; Luke, who is in law school at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and his soon-to-be wife Erica; Emily, a recent graduate of Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in Berkley, California; and Eric and his wife Jessica, who are finishing their undergraduate degrees at UNR.
