Dr. Welmerink is a Board Certified Orthodontist. He graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School and practiced general dentistry for five years with the United States Public Health Service, Indian Health Division. He then returned to the University of Michigan to continue his education with specialty training in orthodontics. After completing his residency and obtaining his Master’s degree in Orthodontics he returned to the Public Health Service serving the seven Indian Health Clinics in the Arizona/Nevada area. Following completion of his Public Health Service, he opened his private practice in Sparks. In July of 2007 he opened a satellite office in Northwest Reno which is currently open one day per week.
He has served as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Northern Nevada Dental Society and is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and the Nevada Society of Orthodontists. He is also a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy of Dentistry.
The Welmerink family includes his wife of over 30 years, Cris, and their four children and their spouses:
- Adam, who is in his orthodontic residency at the University of Michigan, and his wife Diana who has a Master’s degree in Public Health and does research at the University of Michigan.
- Luke, who recently graduated from Golden Gate Law School in San Francisco and is working at Price Waterhouse Coopers while pursuing his Master’s in Tax Law, and his wife Erica who is completing her Master’s in Tax Law while finishing her requirements for her CPA certification.
- Emily has a degree in Sound Engineering from Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in Berkley, CA where she lives and works as an audio engineer. She is living her musical dream.
- Eric and his wife Jessica live in Virginia Beach, VA where they are pursuing their dreams of becoming a Master Scuba Instructor and a Marine Biologist respectively.
