Dr. David Welmerink
Dr. Welmerink is a Board Certified Orthodontist. He graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School and practiced general dentistry for five years with the United States Public Health Service, Indian Health Division. He then returned to the University of Michigan to continue his education with specialty training in orthodontics. After completing his residency and obtaining his Master’s degree in Orthodontics he returned to the Public Health Service serving the seven Indian Health Clinics in the Arizona/Nevada area. Following completion of his Public Health Service, he opened his private practice in Sparks. In July of 2007 he opened a satellite office in Northwest Reno.
He has served as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Northern Nevada Dental Society and is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and the Nevada Society of Orthodontists.
The Welmerink family includes his wife of over 30 years, Cris, their four children and their spouses, and their adorable grandchildren:
- Adam, who completed his orthodontic residency at the University of Michigan, is now practicing with his dad. His wife Diana has a Master’s degree in Public Health, and is a counselor at Bishop Manogue High School. They are proud parents of Claire and expecting their second child.
- Luke recently returned to Reno after completing his J.D. and LL.M. degree in taxation from Golden Gate University School of Law. He is working at the law firm of Anderson, Dorn, & Rader as a financial and estate planner. His wife, Erica, obtained two Master’s Degrees, one in Accounting and one in Tax and is a CPA at a global 6 accounting firm. Luke and Erica have two daughters, Elizabeth and Lennon.
- Emily has a degree in Sound Engineering from Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville, CA. She is currently tour manager for Nicky Bluhm and the Gramblers, and also occasionally tour manages for other bands.
- Eric and his wife Jessica live in Virginia Beach, VA. Eric is a software designer for Decisions, a business software company. Jessica is a personal trainer and also works part time at the Virginia Beach Aquarium. Their son, Wyatt, is fast approaching 1 year of age.
Dr. Adam Welmerink
Dr. Adam is also a Board Certified Orthodontist. He grew up in the Reno/Sparks area, graduating from Galena High School and the University of Nevada. He first joined Welmerink Orthodontics in 2004 as a lab and chairside assistant after graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in Biology. Working alongside his father ignited a passion for orthodontics and solidified his decision to attend dental school at the University of Washington. He graduated with a Master's degree in Orthodontics from the University of Michigan in June 2012. He is very excited to be fulfilling his dream of practicing alongside his father at Welmerink Orthodontics.
Dr. Adam received several awards in dental school for academic achievement, including the award for most outstanding student in orthodontics. He has tutored pre-dental and pre-medical students, volunteered at events providing free dental care for children, and participated in academic research. He also chaired a national conference for all orthodontic residents in 2011. He participates as a member of the Craniofacial Clinic through the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the Northern Nevada Dental Society, and the American Dental Association.
When not practicing orthodontics, he enjoys a variety of activities, including basketball, hiking, water sports, and enjoying the sun at Lake Tahoe. He is married to his wife of 6 years, Diana, who is an epidemiologist with a degree in Public Health. They welcomed their first child, Claire, in March of 2013.
