Meet Dr. Adam Welmerink

Dr. Adam grew up in the Reno/Sparks area, and graduated from Galena High School and the University of Nevada. He first joined Welmerink Orthodontics in 2004 as a lab and chairside assistant. Working alongside his father ignited a love for working with patients to improve their smiles and self-confidence, and solidified his decision to attend dental school at the University of Washington. He was blessed with the opportunity to practice with his father, Dr. David Welmerink, for over 9 years.

After dental school, Dr. Adam attended the University of Michigan to earn a master’s degree in orthodontics in June 2012. In 2014, he became certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, a distinction only one in three orthodontists achieves. He is very excited to be fulfilling his dream of practicing alongside his father at Welmerink Orthodontics.

Dr. Adam has always had a passion for education, inspired by a family of teachers, librarians, and principals. He is a volunteer associate professor of orthodontics at the University of California, San Francisco. There, he supervises orthodontic residents in the clinic as they learn the practice of the specialty, and works with them in seminars on treatment planning and orthodontic practice. He has also tutored pre-dental and pre-medical students, served as a mentor for aspiring dentists, and participated in academic research. In 2010, he chaired a national conference for all orthodontic residents.

Dr. Adam also believes in giving back to our community and our profession. He has held many positions in organized dentistry to advance the mission of our dental societies to protect the public. He is past president of the Northern Nevada Dental Society, and a past Director on the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists Board of Trustees. He is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the Northern Nevada Dental Society, the Nevada Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He participates as a member of the Northern Nevada Craniofacial Team through the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

When he’s not practicing orthodontics, Dr. Adam enjoys a variety of activities, including basketball (playing and coaching youth teams), hiking, water sports, and spending time in the sun at Lake Tahoe. When the weather doesn’t allow those, he loves playing board games of any type, and enjoys sharing time playing them with family and friends. He is married to Diana, who also has a love of education, and serves as an educational counselor for her alma mater. Together they have two wonderful children, Claire and Isaac.
